Online Counselling, via Video Call or Telephone

Online counselling sessions

As I am writing this I am into week 6 of online counselling, meeting my clients either by video call or by telephone.

My clients and I have got used to meeting this way and it is beginning to feel like a new normal way for therapy. I feel it is going well and more importantly I am getting good feedback! If you feel like searching online there is various research that supports online counselling and suggests that it can be as effective as face to face counselling. Alternatively, the Counselling Directory offers a useful discussion about the pros and cons of therapy via video or telephone.

Don’t get me wrong, I am really looking forward to being able to meet in person again and I miss being able to sit with my clients in our counselling room. However, in the meantime, and for new clients who do not want to wait until lockdown ends, meeting via remote methods is proving to be effective.

Training to provide online counselling

Over the last few weeks I have been undertaking training to support the change to working remotely. The training covers how to successfully move to an online practice and focuses on how to be as effective as possible in the delivery of counselling via video call and telephone. I have enjoyed this training and am just finishing a third online course.

One day at a time

I don’t know about you but I have been enjoying the lovely weather this spring has given us and I am making sure I take my regular daily walk. This is a difficult time and it can be useful to not look too far ahead. Try to stay in the present and think about the day ahead, what you plan to do and how you can manage your day. This can really help to find a focus to calm anxious thoughts and go some way in helping to find some enjoyment from daily life.

How are you feeling? Please do get in touch if you would like to explore counselling with me.
