Listening Skills

Listening skills is one of the first things taught in counselling skills training. This may sound a little basic but really listening is not that easy. It takes practice to stay with what someone else is saying, to remain present and not to interrupt.

The problem is, most of the time when someone is talking we are not really listening to what they are saying, instead we are thinking about our related experiences and what we are going to say in reply. In Praise of Talking Therapy

As a provider of talking therapy, or counselling as many of us call it, I felt excited when I came across this great article in praise of talking therapy. The article, 11 Intriguing Reasons To Give Talk Therapy A Try, explains clearly how and why talking therapy can help with many difficulties. In particular it is in praise of the analytical approach that psychodynamic counselling offers.
