About me

Debbie Fitchsampson Counselling. Therapy and counselling in Bishop's Cleeve and Cheltenham.

It’s really important that you find the right counsellor for you, so here’s some information about me that you might find useful.

After undertaking a one-year foundation course in counselling, my counselling career began by studying for a three-year post graduate diploma in psychodynamic counselling. This involved a combination of study of theoretical approach, clinical experience and extensive personal therapy.  After qualifying as a counsellor I under took further training in couples counselling and solution focused short term therapy.

With a former career of over 15 years in Human Resources and Training I have a wealth of experience supporting individuals through challenges such as: stress management, career coaching, bullying and harassment, redundancy and retirement.

My qualifications include:

  • WPF Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (2009)
  • Accredited member of British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) (2011)
  • Post diploma training in Solution Focused Short Term Therapy (2010)
  • Post diploma training in Couples Counselling (2010)
  • Assessment Training (2010)
  • Bereavement Care (2015)
  • Mediation skills training (2003)
  • Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personal and Development (CIPD) (1999)
  • BA (hons) degree

Accreditation with the BACP

To become an accredited member of the BACP the counsellor has to have a significant number of practice hours and demonstrate their experience, competence and ability to practice in an ethical way. I became an accredited member of the BACP in 2011 and I adhere to and support their frame work for ethical practice.

An Experienced Counsellor

To give you a bit more information about me, I work independently and within an organisation. I work part-time for a large counselling charity, where as an experienced member of staff, I meet new clients for an assessment of their needs and provide weekly counselling to adults. I have experience working with other counselling organisations and with a bereavement support charity. For over five years I provided counselling to patients in a busy doctors practice.

I have been successfully running my private practice since 2011.

Further and on-going training

I have an interest in Mindfulness and have attended a course learning how to incorporate mindfulness in to everyday life. I have undertaken training focusing on addiction and codependency. More recently I have undertaken training focusing on Bereavement Care.
