Celebrating 7 Years in Private Practice!

 

This month I am celebrating 7 years in private practice.

I started my career as a counsellor in 2006 within the safety of a large counselling and training charity. I am delighted that I continue to be part of that organisation where I provide counselling one day a week.

In 2011 I stepped outside the security of an organisation to start my private practice. Over the last seven years I have organised all aspects of my work, finding premises, getting insurance, learning about marketing and many others things. This is a great article that clearly and simply explains how counselling can help. Samantha Bye writes about her experiences of counselling and how it helped her better understand and then manage her anxiety and depression.

She writes to help break down the stigma surrounding mental health and says, “I think some people believe that counselling is just for those with extreme issues, but it really isn’t. No one’s mental health problem is more important than someone else’s, and having a neutral and well-qualified person to check in with makes a world of difference”.
